The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival announces finalists for ‘Korean Competition!’
- 10 films selected from 118 entries, 9 of those having world premiere
- Compete for 3 different awards at the 16th Jeonju IFF, which will start on April 30th
The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) announces 10 finalists for its official competition section, ‘Korean Competition.’ ‘Korean Competition’, which is one of Jeonju IFF’s feature programs, selects mid-length or full-length film that shows possibility and potential of Korean independent film.
Final 10 films for ‘Korean Competition’ selected from 118 entries are Alice In Earnestland(Director: AHN Goocjin), Island(Director: PARK Jinseong), To Be Sixteen(Director: KIM Hyunseung), Stay With Me(Director: LEE Jinwoo), Coinlocker(Director: KIM Tea-kyung), With Or Without You(Director: PARK Hyeokji), Waiting For The Snow(Director: JANG Heechul), Warm After All(Director: LEE Sangmin), The Romance Of A Mediocre Actress And A Short Bald Man(Director: PARK Young-im, KIMJOUNG Min-woo), Unconfessional(Director: CHOI Ingyu).
The interesting aspect of this year´s finalists is that almost all films are world premiere ones. 9 films among 10 finalists except 1 Asian premiere, With or Without You will have world premiere this year. Regarding genre, fiction films predominated, as 9 fiction films and 1 documentary were chosen. Finalists sum up to 3 films from Dankook Graduate School of Cinematic Content and Korean Academy of Film Arts, and 7 films from indie film distribution company.
Preliminary jury for ‘Korean Competition’ and utive programmer of Jeonju IFF, KIM Young-jin noted, “I picked up new directors’ works, films that have their own individuality in form, and films that have high possibility of theatrical release.” He added, “I really hope that many movies from Jeonju IFF meet audiences in theaters later on, after the festival”.
Following final announcements for ‘Korean Competition for Shorts’ on March 5th and ‘Korean Competition’ on 12th, all films for Korean film competition section were selected. Finalists for ‘Korean Competition’ will compete for Grand Prize, CGV Arthouse Award Distribution Support, and CGV Arthouse Award Upcoming Project Support at the 16th Jeonju IFF, which will run from April 30th to May 9th for 10 days.
