The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival unveils jury members for main sections!

- Appointing 14 international/domestic cineastes including Jessica HAUSNER, ZHANG Lu, MOON Sori, and Vangelis MOURIKIS

The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) finalized jury members for main sections including ‘International Competition.’ 14 juries announced on Friday, April 3 are prestigious directors Jessica HAUSNER and ZHANG Lu, world-famous actors MOON Sori and Vangelis MOURIKIS, film critics, and international film festival programmers, who all have critical insight.

For ‘International Competition’ which discovers young and creative artists directing less than 3 feature, Austrian director Jessica HAUSNER, Korean-Chinese filmmaker ZHANG Lu, Korean actress MOON Sori, Greek actor Vangelis MOURIKIS, and BFI London Film Festival Programmer Kate TAYLOR who leads East Asia selection were selected. Jessica HAUSNER is regarded as Austrian master after Michael Haneke for her debut film Lovely Rita which was invited to ´Un Certain Regard´ at Cannes Film Festival, and her follow-ups, Hotel and Lourdes. She will also showcase her recent film Amour Fou at this year´s Jeonju IFF.

Director ZHANG Lu attends Jeonju IFF again as jury this time, after directing Scenery for ´Jeonju Digital Project 2013´ at its 14th edition. Korean actress MOON Sori, who has served as jury for a number of International Film Festivals, will also meet the audience with her short film The Running Actress as a director in ´Korea Cinemascape´. Vangelis MOURIKIS is a veteran actor representing Greek movies, starring at 3 films in ´Special Focus: Fallen Myth: Innovation in Greek New Wave´, such as Stratos, Norway, and Attenberg.

For ´Korean competition´, Marcelo ALDERETE, the programmer of International Film Festival of Mar de Plata, director KIM Sungho of How To Steal a Dog, and London-based film critic and festival programmer Tony RAYNS will choose awardees among 10 finalists. Especially, Marcelo ALDERETE has profound knowledge about Korean and Asian films, as he serves as programmer at International Film Festival of Mar de Plata in Argentina, where director PARK Jungbum was awarded for Best Actor for Alive, one of ´Jeonju Digital Project 2014´.

For ´Korean Competition For Shorts´, John CANCIANI, the artistic director of the Winterthur International Short Film Festival and programmer at Filmfoyer Winterthur, director PARK Jungbum who has got much attention around the world for Alive, and Korean actor SHIN Dongmi starring at various films such as A Hard Day and A Matter of Interpretation will go on strict examinations.

´NETPAC Prize´, awarded by Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC), selects 1 awardee among Korean feature films from non-competition section, ´Korea Cinemascape´. Honorary Secretary of NETPAC, WONG Tuck Cheong, Festival Director PARK Donghyun of Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul, and ARAKI Keiko, the festival director of Pia Film Festival which is the longest-running film festival in Japan will participate as juries.

Those 14 jury members will select final award winners, which will be announced at Awards Ceremony on May 6. The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival will run from Thursday, April 30 to Saturday, May 9, for 10 days at ´Cinema Street´, Jeonju Sports Stadium, and CGV Jeonju Hyoja.
