The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival announces the 1st edition of must-watch list!

- Total 7 films including Opening Film Partisan and Outdoor Screening Film Trash

- Introducing hottest films awarded and acclaimed at numerous international film festivals and critic circles

The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) unveils the 1st round recommendations to provide guide for movie selection.

Must-watch list announced on April 13 are total 7 films: Opening Film Partisan(Ariel KLEIMAN), Li’l Quinquin(Bruno DUMONT), The Duke of Burgundy(Peter STRICKLAND), Trash(Stephen DALDRY), Boy Eating the Bird’s Food(Ektoras LYGIZOS), Two Shots Fired(Martin REJTMAN), and Father and Sons(WANG Bing). In addition to films that got much attention from a number of international film festivals and critic circles, there are also recent films from recognized masters, those from mysterious directors, and works that represent modern trend.

Opening Film Partisan is the feature debut of Australian director Ariel KLEIMAN, which completed through Sundance Institute. In this Sundance’s hottest film this year, iconic France actor Vincent Cassel (from Black Swan, A Dangerous Method, and Beauty and the Beast) starred and performed impressive acting.

Li’l Quinquin, the latest film of director Bruno DUMONT who won ‘Grand Prix Award’ twice at Cannes Film Festival for Humanity and Flanders is also noticeable. Li’l Quinquin ranked the 1st place among 10 Best films in 2014 by 「Cahiers du Cinema」, the most influential French language film magazine in the world. British film The Duke of Burgundy has been invited to numerous international film festivals such as Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival as well as highly acclaimed as the hottest work from various film magazines including 「Sight & Sound」. It is British rising star Peter STRICKLAND’s third work which shows overwhelming visual tapestry.

Outdoor Screening Film Trash has both popularity and cinematic quality. It is recent film of Billy Elliot’s Stephen DALDRY, where poor children who live on trash stack in slum of Rio, Brazil explore a new life. Audience can meet this cheerful film full of Brazilian traditional music through large screen at Outdoor Screening Venue in Jeonju Lounge, Jeonju Sports Stadium.

New, creative artists and works from ‘Special Focus’ are also included. Boy Eating the Bird’s Food from ‘Fallen Myth: Innovation in Greek New Wave’ which illuminates freshness of Greek films, Two Shots Fired from ‘Martin REJTMAN, the Cineaste of Black Humor’, the retrospective program about Argentine director Martin REJTMAN, and lastly Father and Sons from ‘WANG Bing: Art of Observation’, special exhibition for one of the most important video artists today, WANG Bing, complete the list. Especially, in ‘WANG Bing: Art of Observation’, his three recent films, Father and Sons, Man with No Name, and Traces will be screened and 40 black-and-white photos which he took will be presented through gallery displays.

Tickets for these 7 recommended films can be purchased via early reservation. Starting from Opening Ceremony and Opening Film Partisan reservation at 2:00pm, Tuesday, April 14, tickets for General Screenings and Outdoor Screenings will be opened at 11:00am, Thursday, April 16. Ticket reservation is available at Jeonju IFF’s official website (http://eng.jiff.or.kr). The 16th Jeonju IFF will be held from Thursday, April 30 to Saturday, May 9, for 10 days.
