General Screening Films of the 16th Jeonju International Film Festival have high rate of reservation!
- Korean indie films of ‘Korean Competition’ and ‘Korean Competition For Shorts’, and hottest titles from overseas have high seat occupancy share

General Screening Films of the 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) have been continuing high rate of reservation since tickets open at 2:00pm, Thursday, April 16. Based on April 20 statistics, Korean films, latest films from international masters such as Bruno DUMONT, Paul Thomas ANDERSON and Noah BAUMBACH, midnight screening program ‘Midnight In Cinema’, and ‘Cinemafest’ which introduces well-made popular films have hight sold-out rate.
Taking a look at seat occupancy share distribution, Korean films and short films are popular in regional and typical aspect, respectively. Especially, ‘Korea Cinemascape Shorts’, ‘Korean Competition For Shorts’ and ‘World Cinemascape: Spectrum Shorts’ have high share. As with ‘Korean Competition For Shorts’ where 1,000 seats are allocated, seat occupancy share reaches 83.2%, 12 out of 20 films recording sold-out for all screening times. Among ‘Korea Cinemascape Shorts’ which has 98.3% seat occupancy share, Informality, directed by actor RYU Deokhwan, actor MOON Sori’s second shorts The Running Actress and The Dark Night: Making Film, directed by SHIM Chanyang who won Special Jury Prize at the 37th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival with Minsu Kim in Wonderland are included.
Exceptional interest in Korean indie films is also reflected to ‘Korean Competition’ which is assigned over 2,000 seats. Seat occupancy share has reached 60% for ‘Korean Competition’, where Alice in Earnesland(AHN Goocjin), starring singer/actress LEE Junghyun, recorded sold-out for all screening times. Actually, tickets for Alice in Earnestland were sold-out most quickly among 200 official titles. In addition, Stay with Me(RHEE Jinwoo) and To be Sixteen(KIM Hyeonseung) also seems to be sold-out soon for all screening times, with fast rate of increase.
Another high seat occupancy share of 52% belongs to ‘World Cinemascape: Masters’ where 5,000 seats are assigned and ‘World Cinemascape: Spectrum’ which has the most seats (10,000) allocated. Among ‘World Cinemascape: Spectrum, Masters’, hottest films acclaimed from overseas movie journals and critic circles are earning a great deal of popularity. Bruno DUMONT’s Li’l Quinquin, which ranked the 1st place out of 10 best films in 2014 by French film critic magazine 「Cahiers du Cinema」, recorded sold-out for all screening times, while Peter STRICKLAND’s The Duke of Burgundy, one of best films in 2014 by American film magazine 「Film Comment」, seems to be sold-out soon as well. Moreover, Inherent Vice, the recent film by Paul Thomas ANDERSON who won ‘Golden Bear’ in Berlinale with Magnolia and ‘Silver Lion’ in Venice with The Master is also receiving great attention from cinephiles.
Midnight screening program ‘Midnight In Cinema’ is showing over 65% seat occupancy share. ‘Cinemafest’ is also attracting many people with hottest films such as all times sold-out La La La at Rock Bottom by YAMASHITA Nobuhiro, Elephant Song starring Xavier Dolan, Far From Men starring Viggo Mortensen, Susanne BIER’s A Second Chance, and While We’re Young, new film by Noah BAUMBACH who earned numerous fans for Frances Ha. Meanwhile, Partisan is enjoying Opening Film premiere position with all times sold-out for General Screenings.
Online sold-out movies are also reservable at on-site box offices on the screening day, in a first-come, first-served basis. There are special events for Outdoor Screenings as well. On ‘Children’s Day’, Tuesday, May 5, maximum 2 children from 3 to 12 years old can watch Shaun the Sheep for free, if they are accompanied by an adult(Accompanying adults should pay). Like a French Film on Wednesday, May 6 will accept free admissions by 2,000 seats, in a first-come, first-served basis. Reservation for Opening Ceremony, Opening Film, General Screenings, and Outdoor Screenings is available through Jeonju IFF’s official website(http://eng.jiff.or.kr), and also at the basement of ’CAFE ZIP&JIFF’ in ’Cinema Street’ which is an on-site box office for early reservation, until April 24.
