The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival introduces diverse Class programs!

- Providing lectures by masters such as Martin REJTMAN, WANG Bing and Jessica HAUSNER

- Getting high attention as Master Class of WANG Bing-JUNG Sung-il sold out

The 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) holds various lecture programs by international veteran directors, film critics and actors. ‘Master Class’, ‘Cinematology Class’, ‘Cineaste Class’, and ‘Talk Class’ are ready to provide vivid stories of prestigious cineastes.

‘Master Class’ features masters who have made outstanding cinematic achievements and developed their won areas. Two leads of ‘Special Focus’, Martin REJTMAN (from retrospective program) and WANG Bing (from special exhibition) will meet the audience after screening of their films, Two Shots Fired (8:00pm, Tuesday, May 5 at Megabox Jeonju(Gaeksa) Table M) and Father and Sons (2:00pm, Sunday, May 3 at Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema). Especially, WANG Bing Master Class with moderator JUNG Sung-il (film critic) is getting a lot of attention as sold-out in just 5 minutes on last April 16, when the reservation for General Screenings started. In addition, Jessica HAUSNER, who is an ‘International Competition’ jury as well as showing her latest film Amour Fou at our festival this year, will deliver instructive stories about her cinematic world, after screening of her film (8:00pm, Tuesday, May 5 at CGV Jeonju Hyoja Screen 3).

‘Cinematology Class’, combined with ‘Cinematology’ which illuminates international film histories and film artists, is also noticeable. With the motto of ‘understanding movies through movies’, ‘Cinematology’ is a newly prepared program this year which goes with lectures by professionals or directors. Robert Altman, Sergei Eisenstein, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Paul Sharits, Ulrich Seidl, Alexander Sokurov, and the history of German expressionism films are directors and theme selected by ‘Cinematology’ this year. Total 9 films from diverse genres and topics, including Eisenstein in Guanajuato which dramatizes specific days of Sergei Eisenstein from Battleship Potemkin, and Altman, the documentary covering disobedient director Robert Altman each connects to classes with professionals and directors, after screening.

Moreover, Jeonju IFF also presents ‘Cineaste Class’ where audiences can have a conversation with invited directors and actors, and ‘Talk Class’ where young directors and actors share their filmmaking experiences. Aardman Studio, the producer of Outdoor Screening Film Shaun the Sheep, talks about clay animation world at ‘Cineaste Class’. At ‘Talk Class’, audiences can meet RYU Deokhwan who has developed new career to director from actor, with Informality, and singer/actor LEE Junghyun who has made unique character with Alice in Earnestland, in a close distance.

‘Master Class’, co-hosted by Paekche Institute of the Arts, will run for 90 minutes, with the admission fee of 12,000 KRW which includes movie screening. Both ‘Cinematology Class’ and ‘Cineaste Class’ will run for 60 minutes after the screening ends, but not every ‘Cineaste Class’ has movie screenings. ‘Talk Class’ has no screenings. Admission fees of all these 3 programs are 6,000 KRW each, and they are reservable at Jeonju IFF’s official website(http://eng.jiff.or.kr). The 16th Jeonju IFF will run from Thursday, April 30 to Saturday, May 9.
