- Director KIM Heejung, LEE Hyun-jung and Benjamin NAISHTAT attended

‘Jeonju Cinema Project 2015’ (‘JCP 2015’) Press Conference for the 16th Jeonju International Film Festival (Jeonju IFF) was held at Press Center on Cinema Street, Jeonju, at 5:00pm on Saturday, May 2. With Programmer JANG Byung-won as a host, all three directors from ‘JCP 2015’, KIM Heejung from Snow Paths, LEE Hyun-jung from Samnye, and Benjamin NAISHTAT from El Movimiento, and lastly Festival Director KO Suk-man attended. A number of international/domestic press showed the high interest in new ‘JCP 2015’ films.

Previous ‘Jeonju Digital Project’ which supported shorts production changed its scale to feature-length last year, and changed its official name to ‘Jeonju Cinema Project’ this year. The renewed ‘Jeonju Cinema Project’ deleted outdated term, ‘Digital’ and intensified the regional identity, ‘Jeonju.’ Especially, ‘Jeonju Digital Project 2014’ films have been awarded numerous prizes from prestigious overseas film festivals, making many people pay attention to this year’s 3 project movies.

KIM Heejung from Snow Paths which tells the story about one alcoholic man said, “I wrote my scenario, inspired by the image of a man who walks along the path while crying. I think the theme of addiction is quite interesting to creator of films. I tried to cover fateful but unescapable situation through my film.” LEE Hyun-jung from Samnye emphasized the significance of the project, “I made my film, while regarding Samnye as a big set. I wanted to capture its own identity, before Samnye, the old city between Jeonju and Iksan, gets under extensive development. Through this project, I could freely describe stories and images that I imagined and made up only in my mind.”

Benjamin NAISHITAT from El Movimiento has its second relationship with Jeonju IFF this year, since he won Grand Prize at ‘International Competition’ of the 15th Jeonju IFF last year with History of Fear. Benjamin expressed his exceptional love toward Jeonju IFF by saying, “We usually have to work hard to meet investment/production companies to make movies. As a result, sometimes directors change their own thinking according to those decision makers’ preferences. However, while working on ‘JCP 2015’, I could freely make my own film. Now I feel Jeonju IFF as my 2nd hometown.”

All three films from ‘Jeonju Cinema Project 2015’ were screened as world premiere through Jeonju IFF on May 1 and 2. After the festival ends, they will introduce Jeonju’s own identity to overseas film festivals, and prepare for theatrical release around the world. Opening on last April 30, Jeonju IFF is successfully getting underway during weekend, as main titles have been mostly sold-out.
