Opening Film Press Conference for the 17th Jeonju International Film Festival Was Held

The Opening Film Press Conference for the 17th Jeonju International Film Festival was held at 2:40pm on Thursday, April 28 at Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema. At the conference, Robert BUDREAU and David BRAID from Born to be Blue had participated in this conference and had a conversation with the festival director LEE Choongjik and Programmer LEE Sang-yong.
The Opening Film Press Conference began at 1pm with screening Born to be Blue followed by press conference at 2:40pm. Festival director LEE Choongjik had commented, “We are very excited and thrilled to have Born to be Blue, a film about an artist’s life and music, as an opening film for our festival.” Robert BUDREAU, the director of Born to be Blue who has visited South Korea for the first time, has also said he was very happy to see Korean audiences and expressed his expectations. Also, he explained the reason he chose Chet BAKER for his film. “He lost all, but tried to get those back.”
Born to Be Blue is a biographical film where success and downfall overlap and shows the life of Chet Baker along with various styles of jazz performance. This film set in the 1960s about Chet BAKER, a trumpet player who left his mark in jazz history. Well known for Before Midnight (2013) and Boyhood (2014), Ethan HAWKE’s portrayal of the complicated character of Chet BAKER and music play in harmony. Addictions and alcohol in 1960s was dark period of Chet BAKER, yet it was his the happiest time of period with his lover, ‘Jane’.
After the press conference, Red Carpet Ceremony was held at Outdoor Screening Venue in Jeonju IFF Lounge from 7:00pm, followed by Opening Ceremony at 8:00pm. Domestic/International figures in film industry attended to celebrate the 17th edition, including movie starts such as JUNG Jaeyoung, HAN Yeri, AHN Jaehong, Junior (PARK Jinyoung) and more. The 17th Jeonju IFF will run from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, May 7, for 10 days.
