Jeonju Project Market has announced to operate a MiddleEarth Lab, the project planning & development research center. MiddleEarth Lab is launched to open the new horizon of Korean film, where various experiments are going to be conducted to help to make new and creative Korean film.
MiddleEarth Lab has two characteristics. First, the lab focuses on the development of medium-sized projects which cost 4 billion or less won. By developing creative and new film projects, MiddleEarth Lab aims to become a backbone of a film market polarized according to the scale of capital, by supporting a medium-sized film market with films based on a fine plot. Directors, actors, and critics together will develop such films showing their full potential of talents and individuality through unlimited creativity.
Especially, director SHIN Yeonsik who was the screenwriter of DongJu will be participating in the project as a senior researcher. Also director PARK Jeongbum, YOON Gaeun, actor MA Dongseok, film critic LEE Sangyong participate in developing the project as a researcher.
There are three projects to be developed from this year in MiddleEarth Lap: Shinbulchul dealing with a real storyteller Shinbulchul; Peoraeng-i about the street fighter who yearns for a middle class; and a Talented child about a childhood of an artist. These three projects will be introduced in “MiddleEarth Lab promotion” during Jeonju Project Market, and then planning and development of those projects will be getting into its stride.
Jeonju Project Market also creates ‘Jeonju Cinema Fund’ for project planning and development. It is expected to strengthen the market as a platform to link creative and new planning with the movie industry. The 9th Jeonju Project Market will be held from May 3 to May 5 for 3 days at Roni Hotel.
